Not that this blog seems to be primarily leaning towards mobile apps (not intentional) but there is no doubt that some of the more successful apps out there take their lead from the simplistic but addictive nature of years gone by. But some of the top apps out there are direct ports of actual games from the mists of time. So here are the top retro games that I’ve parted with actual cash for to re-live those glory days.
So then, iMac, iPod, iPhone and now iPad. No, not new line of feminine hygene but the long awaited Apple Tablet (at last). With two fingers up to the entire netbook market they promise us that this is ‘the device’ to fill the gap between smartphones and laptops. Sporting a 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit multi-touch screen this is an iPhone gone mental. The UI is that we all know and love so nearly everyone will be able to pick it up and get started. It runs all the current Apps in the AppStore plus more that are currently being written for it. Add to that email, web browsing, movies, iTunes, Photos, eBooks and even a mobile version of iWork you have a truely versatile device.
To be honest I wasn’t blown away but it when I watched the keynote but the more and more I read up about it the more and more interested I get. Considering it boasts a 10 hour battery life and a hefty 1 month standby time this is something that I can just pick up and turn on like my phone. I don’t have to wait for it to boot, I can just get going. That was in fact the purpose of getting my netbook but it has all the same startup and load issues as any PC, the iPad may just change that. As an iPhone user it would be great to be able to use the my phone on the move and then be able to come home to a larger device that syncs all of my activities via my Apple account. That must be a good thing.
Downsides consist of the no existance of multitasking, nor front faceing webcam for video chat and as a wise Apple sage pointed out this morning, no PhotoShop (which would be nice on a device like this).
So far so good. Do I want one? Will I get one? Don’t you know me already???
