Utility of the Day : Recuver

Accidently deleted a file? System crashed and files gone walkies? Well you really, really need to give Recuver a go! Brought to you by the same nice people that brought us CCleaner this data recovery app actually works (trust me I’ve tried it)! You can scan your hard drives, recycle bins and even your portable devices for that elusive data. Genius!

Utility of the Day : FlashFire

If you’re an early netbook adopter and it’s one of those with a miniscule solid state hard drive pre-installed with some dodgy Linux distro you may have thought of moving up to XP. But you may have found that XP doesn’t run too fast. This is to do with the lame read/write speeds on some SSDs. I’ve had the same problem on my daughters netbook but tonight I solved it. Download and install FlashFire an app for improving the read/write speed on these early machines. As soon I’d done the deed all was fine and dandy.

Utility of the Day : HP USB Storage Format Tool

Now this might sound like a odd utility to be harping on about but in the last few days it’s been sooo useful. If you’re anything like me you’re always messing around with USB memory sticks and trying to get them to do different things (yes they are something more than somewhere to store those guilty pictures). For example I’ve been trying to install various operating systems on my daughters netbook with one but if you go for a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu or in one extreme case Android you can end up crapping out your stick altogether. So how to restore it. With the HP USB Storage Format Tool of course. Even though it’s from HP it works on all sticks. So if you find you’ve corrupted the hell out of your little fella run the utility and it’ll be as good as new. Boring but useful.
